[Repost] Steve Roach & Vidna Obmana - Live Archive / Spirit Dome (2000)

LIVE ARCHIVE collects peak performance moments of pure energy and emotion from the duo's live adventures in Europe and the US. The wide range of venues, traveling to various countries, and above all their first tour together fueled their mutual intentions, challenging the artists to create music that does not know the limits of jet lag, equipment failures, and physical demands which occur when leaving the sanctuary of the studio. The sound is steeped in their tribal-ambient period. "Verucchio Invocation" opens the CD, recorded in an Italian Roman-era open amphitheater under the stars, and the experience evolves from this exotic moment.
The artists write: "While our experience reached a level of spontaneous interaction in the studio, it was an entirely different dimension when performing live on stage at a specific moment in time. It was as if we were communicating with each other blindfolded, focusing entirely on the sound appearing in the moment and being exchanged back and forth while the energy of the audience and the space helped feed the process. Although we briefly discussed the structure of each concert, the magic simply came alive when we took the live performance map outside any form of logical preparation, relying on our mutual passion and instinct for traveling in the soundcurrent."

[Edit] Premièrement publié sur mon blog le 27/03/09 à 00:31 et visité par 461 visiteurs, cet article est dorénavrant enrichi d'un véritable rédactionnel à base de mots cultivés dans le respect du développement durable et d'une agriculture écologiquement intensive qui permette de produire plus avec moins.
C'est à ce titre que ce post est enrichi de l'album Spirit Dome, enregistré non pas à Rome en présence du pape mais dans les conditions du direct, avec le gracieux concours de Vidna Obama qui n'est autre que la soeur de lait du marchand de beurre devenu Président des Camemberts US, et pour tout dire live on the spot in Room 314, Philadelphia, PA on May 24th 2002.

Comme j'avais égaré l'archive, j'ai été obligé de les racheter ce matin sur Itunes pour la modique somme de 7,99 € la paire, vous serez gentils de vous cotiser pour me rembourser par Paypal.

DESCRIPTION:
Zero Point: lessons in being nothing showcases some of the great talents in electronic music today, and finds them participating in a unique form of collaboration. With Ambient Temple of Imagination (ATOI) tracks as the inspiration and source material, Vidna Obmana, Steve Roach, and Seofon opened a circle of recycling (a process developed by Vidna Obmana and Asmus Tietchens to go deeper than simple remixing). Stephen Kent, Robert Rich, Not Breathing, and Thermal were brought into the circle as the project progressed. Entirely new pieces were created using a variety of methods and collaborative trajectories with Seofon (a member of Ambient Temple of Imagination) serving as a center-point: coordinating the project, making his own recycling contributions, and integrating the finished tracks into a hypnotic tapestry. The resulting music has traveled a long way from its origins, the original material barely recognizable in the new pieces. This album is full of rich textures, subtle and powerful both. Follow the rhythms, connect the melodies and harmonics in your listening; the rewards are great!

The Ambient Temple of Imagination, a musical extension of chill-room innovator Richard Sun, has enjoyed almost 10 years as an open collective exploring the ritual use of sound. After two highly concentrated LP's for San Francisco's Silent label, ATOI focused on public performance and collaboration, producing three live albums documenting the evolution of the ambient room and the energies of the public ceremony. The last of these, Planetary House Nation, caught the attention of Steve Roach and Vidna Obmana, who opened the circle for the collaborative union at Zero Point.

Belgian electronic musician Vidna Obmana is perhaps one of the field's most prolific and widely respected musicians. Having beginnings in the realms of Eno-style ambient and other unusual sonic experimentations, he has developed and changed one style into what seems like several over a long, recent string of fascinating musical collaborations. Recording in the fields of space, ambient, industrial, modern classical, ethnic and other musics, Vidna Obmana has achieved a breadth that few musicians do, in a passionate commitment to his art.

Also lending his artistic and psychic support to the project is ambient innovator Steve Roach. With over 40 releases to his name in the last 20 years, ranging from Berlin-school space music to neo-tribal atmospheres to more recent electronic groove explorations, Roach remains a paragon in modern music. Here, he translates live ATOI transmissions into the shared territory of his soundworld.

Zero Point is also blessed by outstanding guest musicians. Multi-instrumental master Stephen Kent revives his spontaneous guest appearance on Planetary House Nation with an encore didjeridu discourse, while electro-organic innovator Robert Rich lends his unique harmonics to the dialogue. Finally, longtime ATOI contributor Thermal and Invisible Records recording artist Not Breathing shine a light into dark, previously unexplored territories.

The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble (TKDE) est un collectif à géométrie variable qui officie dans les mondes electro / jazz / ambient, où ils excellent dans le développement et l'épandage d'ambiances mortifères.

[Repost] Le dernier Steve Roach avant la fin du monde

Un ami me signale l'existence d'une musique binaurale, à l'origine d'un marketing éponyme.

Il me demande ce que j'en pense, question qui me paniquerait s'il ne suffisait de tester la chose.

Puis nous passons chacun dans notre coin une bonne demi-heure, à une semaine d'intervalle, allongés par terre, peut-être stupéfaits de notre propre crédulité, à tester l'efficience de fichiers audio portant des noms de drogues et supposés créer des sensations hallucinogènes, stimulantes, diététiques, apaisantes.

Aucun effet notable.

La science avance.

Les rédactionnels qui vantent les mérites des sons binauraux sont embarrassants pour l'intelligence, et les visuels suggèrent franchement l'attrape-gogos.

Impressions confirmées par le Grand Sage Basilus West, en léger différé.

Dommage, il y avait de quoi saliver, c'est peut-être pour ça que les rats se sont mis dans le fromage, et ça inspirera au moins un auteur de SF.

Quoique, de mémoire, entre le Dieu venu du Centaure de Dick et le Vurt de Jeff Noon, ça m'étonnerait que ça n'ait pas déjà été traité par les littératures de l'imaginaire.
Et puis le problème de l'imaginaire des autres, c'est comment le raccorder au sien.

Néanmoins, loin de moi l'idée de ricaner à propos des sons binauraux.

N'ai-je pas écouté des disques de Steve Roach pendant des années dans le but avoué d'en obtenir une amélioration de mon état intérieur ?

N'en tire-t-il pas lui même un substantiel profit en orientant son arsenal marketing vers le développement personnel à portée d'oreille ?

A ce titre, les derniers qu'il ait sortis sont vraiment mous du genou.

On est trimballés dans des limbes arythmiques et atonales, obligés de trouver notre chemin tous seuls, sans parler du retour.

Je préfère quand c'est un peu balisé, avec Byron Metcalf par exemple, même si le merchandising qui en résulte de disques "prêts à chamaniser" soit toujours suspect.

Je mets le Serpent's lair ici, il était très réussi dans le genre sus-décrit, et je ne l'ai pas vu trainer sur les blogs spécialisés des gens qui croient que mettre leur discothèque en partage va leur apporter le surcroît de vie sociale qui leur manque, je n'ai plus l'habitude de partager des disques, ça me fait bizarre.

[Repost] Robert Rich & B. Lustmord - Stalker (1995)

Hommage de deux fondus du dark ambient au film éponyme de Tarkowski.
Le disque idéal pour faire fuir vos amis en fin de soirée, comme dirait Télérama.
Mais il y a de bons climats.
Beaucoup plus habitable que le Lustmord morbide et le Robert Rich sous Rohypnol qu'on a pu connaitre par le passé.

"Le film a connu deux versions filmées. Une première qui a été perdue en totalité suite à un mauvais développement de la pellicule. La version actuelle, en deux parties, est donc une version tournée un an après la première, mais cette fois-ci pour la télévision."
